Working from home is becoming the new norm. Even now as the states are re-opening, many companies are allowing their employees to remain WFH through the end of the year and beyond. Companies are starting to reassess their financial commitments to office spaces.
I've been working from home for 10 years and have learned a lot to be efficient.
If it's new to you here's a few tips...
People Managers:
Trust your team to do the work. They're adults and need jobs - it's not like they'll be playing video games or watching Netflix.
Use Zoom, Hangouts, Skype to get that face time.
Be understanding about kids & pets (you've probably got them too).
People:
Wake up at normal time, get out of pj's, make food/coffee, workout, etc. You've suddenly got an hour or more of "commute time" - take advantage of it.
Find a work station and plug in (dining table, desk, couch if you have to.)
Don't stress about your kids/pets - your managers and clients will have the same situation.
Log off at normal time and enjoy the free "commute time" with family, pets, roommates, meditation, or whatever it is that's important to you.
Everyone:
Avoid distractions as much as you can. Keep the TV off and stay business as usual (situations permitting).
There's always a choice of how you respond to change - try to keep it as positive as possible.
